THE CASUAL PASSERS-BY I MET, 2004
5 april - 20 may

At the end of the 60s, Braco Dimitijević began to photograph passersby. He later displayed these portraits, often printed in very large formats, on the facades of public buildings usually used for photos of politicians, celebraties or advertisements, or in the form of posters on hoardings and backs of buses. His first works were exhibited in Paris, Kassel, Düsseldorf, Berlin, London and New York. Dimitrijević’s work was presented for the first time in Italy in 1971 in Naples. Dimitrijević takes the anti-hero fashion to its logical and riduculous conclusion, veering between extreme optimism and bitter cynicism. The appendix to this lack of faith in contemporary man is the hope that each human being may ultimately have a value. For FotoGrafia Braco Dimitrijević has created a new series of casual passersby met in the streets of the capital.
