A gallery of portraits taken between 1994 and 2002 on the beaches of thirteen European seaside resorts.
A blurred sea on the horizon and a touch of sand provide the hazy background for subjects portrayed in Italy, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Romania, Spain, Finland and Latvia. The apparently homogeneous contexts bring to the fore the bodies, looks and gestures of the subjects which suffice to synthesise an environment, a culture or social condition.
Peaceful images leave room for eccentricity, everyday moments alternate with situations where it is possible to be what one may not be in everyday life.
From northern to southern Europe, a series of different sites, climates and cultures. Yet each photograph reveals the willingness – shared by all the subjects portrayed – to reveal themselves, to allow themselves to be described.
